ONCE UPON A SILVERY MOON

Upon her lips were broken words interrupted by his angry sword.
She was faithful, but his rage blinded jealousy wouldn't see.
He counted his submission as a loss
A profit stolen by the envy of a brother.

Under a silvery moon of promise,
the stars watched souls lifted up in jubilee.
Smiles contagious, but shallow
found their way past betrayal's gates.
Ember hidden hands locked in brother-hood.
Drawing sweaty bodies closer,
deep kissed innocence with bile coated tongues.
Poisonous lies too sweet to vomit.
Blood stained eyes too filthy to cleanse.
The fabrics of humanity too far lost in the deep gutters of revenge to be rinsed.

Hands on the "Obodom" waited eagerly to signal a hero's welcome,
but sorrow was swifter.
Pain spoke to the drummer's skilled palms;
Thus a recoil to celebration.
Dance rehearsed feet took to their heels.
The spirits of the ancestors freed mortal bodies devoid of courage.
A night so dark the owl stayed silent.
The mood was red, the horizon violet.

Forceful exit.
So quick it was almost painless.
Ushered by tears in to the afterlife.
Udeme!
Even in death you loved your beast.
With her last breath came broken fragments of his name.

Udeme!
Look what love has done to you.
Or is it fate?
Written by the fingers of the gods that you would be ceased so bitterly.
I curse the gods!
I curse this love!
I curse this life!
Your heart should have rested with me...
Yet even I await the hang man for daring to have you.
