RACING YESTERDAY

I'm in a race against the past
I have got to catch the future today
I let go of all the things that held me back
Not just my hands but mind on the mark
Faith for fear
Endurance for pain
Joy for tears
My mind is set

BLACK SISTER

Alec Wek

You are
 The pride of the earth
Rhythm in the storm
Whisper of the savanna
Mystery of the forest
Fragrance in the spices

Voice of the wind
Melody in the rivers
Secret of the diamond
Black Sister
African Princess

You are
The beauty in the eye of the river bird
Strength in the Lion's roar
Wind beneath the eagle's wings
Mother of the earth
Color of night
Yet glitter you like black gold
Your voice invokes peace
Your smile inspires joy
The secrets to a King's wisdom
For he who masters you masters life
Black Sister
African Princess

Your beauty is like no other
Endowed with the fullness of mother nature
Rich in strength from your hair to your heart
Soul unpolluted by the glamor of the west
Loving me fearlessly like a child
Touching me harmlessly like the wind
Unbroken by pain
It makes her stronger
Black Sister
African Princess

This is dedicated to all the strong black women who take pride in their skin color and personality. I think people always want to look like other people because they have not discovered the depth of who they are. Deep within us all... there is beauty beyond imagination and duplication. Shalom

FROZEN IN TIME

As I sat there
Legs together
Hands wrapped loosely below my bust
Waiting,
Somebody please notice
That I am just a child
Frozen in a nightmare

THE WIFE'S CRY... death has come

My husband,
I try to be strong
But these tears fill my heart,
not my eyes
I try not to believe that I won't see you again
I try to dial you phone number hoping to meet the surprise of your reply

ONLY IN MY DREAMS... dilemma of a shy teenager.

Your eyes tell me secrets your lips won't
Your lips try to lie but your heart won't
Your heart may break and cry but your eyes won't
Your dreams play with mine but your reality won't

WITHOUT A HEART

Love never had a fairy tale ending for me
So I gave up that dream
Love was never good to me
So I was never caught sleeping
Even when my heart was weak
I poisoned it with facts of the past

DISTANCE

"Somewhere we know that without silence words lose their meaning, that without listening speaking no longer heals, that without distance closeness cannot cure."--Henri Nouwen

HERE I AM LORD

Here I am again today Lord
In need of your strength
I can't see without your eyes
I can't hear without your presence
I can't leave without your leading
I can't live without your grace

ANGEL EYES

Every time I look into those lovely angel eyes
I see is what inspires sunrise

I see a love that can't be bought
Passion that can't be fought
I can hear every word, see every thought
Unashamed and un-hidden, you open me like a cut

Loving me still, burn me with your jealousy and your wrath
Fingers touch, ignite my fire; hot
Turn my lights on, wake the butterflies in my gut
Beauty entrapped in a body threatening to burst forth
I'm spell stroke
Frozen on the spot like blood clot

One look from you travels me into unending fantasies
Am awake but dreaming, this can't be reality
Attention with no hurry
Unfold me like the mysteries in the book of poetry
Every word, syllable, pause, clause and silence amplified clearly
In want but satisfied, licking lips
Gently, tenderly, greedily
Reflexes forgiven; understanding spontaneity
Is this love, is this love, is this love
Killing me softly
Breathing in quick successions,
Shallow and rapidly
Un-sounded octave coursed by a feeling deeply

Am awake but dreaming
Dreaming inside a dream
Am silent but screaming
I can't hold my steam
Am in love
For the very last time
Am in love
Am lost in your angel eyes

FADE TO BLACK

When it hurts so bad it begins to pump bitterness
When its lost so much it begins to hate happiness
Fade to black
A dark heart ain't deep
