ONCE UPON A SILVERY MOON

Upon her lips were broken words interrupted by his angry sword.
She was faithful, but his rage blinded jealousy wouldn't see.
He counted his submission as a loss
A profit stolen by the envy of a brother.

Under a silvery moon of promise,
the stars watched souls lifted up in jubilee.
Smiles contagious, but shallow
found their way past betrayal's gates.
Ember hidden hands locked in brother-hood.

Lost African Child

Dust covered feet
Back accustomed to the sun's heat
It is anguish not joy that shines my teeth
African child

Lost in the carnage of corruption
Drowned a pool of staled hope's salivation
Lies well dressed for public adoration
African child

Flesh in close romance with bone and intestine

Silence Amplified

Side by side we lie
Heartbeats echoing at each other
Loud silence

Our souls need tolerance

Under the pregnant African sky we lie still
Malicious silence reminded to life by insolent mosquitoes
