Africa, oh Africa,
Its not just a land of tall trees
and black faces
Or green landscape and multi-races
Its a land rich in culture,
personality, and Pride
A land of shadows and history
Wisdom is the meat of elders
And proverbs, the wine to wash it down
Africa, oh Africa,
Its not just a land with black soil
Crude oil, or red oil
Its a land of mothers who know all her children's graves
Greed has put weapons in our hands
And ignorance pointed out the wrong enemies
Where Fathers are warlords or Kings of fantasized kingdoms
Africa, oh Africa,
But for your confused leaders, I would hail you King of the universe
But for your squandered resources, I would worship you as a super power
But for the blood...
Oh the innocent blood of sons and daughters who craved change,
I would pride myself in your purity
But Africa is just a child
still attending to childish vanity
Africa, oh Africa,
Arise from deep sleep and take your place
Enjoy your beauty, oh beautiful bride
Glory in your wealth, oh King of Nations
Africa, my joy and pride,
Lay down your sword and pick the pen
Re-write history in ink and not in the blood of your sons
